Vestry Nominations

We are in an exciting time in the life of our church. We have reached the point where we are ready have our own vestry! (Vestry is the anglican word for the “parish council” or “board”). We would like you to prayerfully consider nominating someone from our church to serve on the vestry. Nominations are due by Monday, June 12. You can find a link to the nomination form below.

What is a Vestry?

The vestry serves as the governing board over the finances and property of the parish. The vestry also serves as an advisory council to the rector who by church law is the parish’s chief liturgical and pastoral officer. The vestry is comprised of servant leaders who share the responsibility of stewarding the vision and finances of the parish.

Five Roles of the Vestry (from Father David Roseberry – anglicancompass.com)

  1. Protect the vision

  2. Insure the values

  3. Uphold Financial Integrity

  4. Support the Rector

  5. Model Sacrificial Giving

Who makes a good Vestry Member?

First off, good vestry members are good parish members. You might take a moment to review our Membership Covenant and reflect on who embodies these life-giving practices.

Secondly, think about who in our church demonstrates “servant leadership”? Are they actively participating? Serving in a ministry? Inviting and welcoming others into the community? Are the fruits of the spirit evident in their lives?

Lastly, when considering a person for nomination, it can be helpful to think about what unique skills the person could bring to the vestry and be useful to our church. A vestry needs a variety of people with diverse skills: financial minds alongside those who walk with the poor, contemplative prayer warriors together with those more practically minded.

Please use this form to nominate someone this week (June 5-12).

Thank you for join us in this important work.

Your pastor and friend,

Jon+
