Maundy Thursday 2024

On the evening of Maundy Thursday, we join Jesus and his friends and followers for their final meal before he is handed over to suffering and death.

The word “Maundy” comes from the Latin for “command," referring to the new commandment Jesus gives his followers during the Last Supper: “Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another” (John 13:34). Our Lord embodies this love by washing his disciples’ feet.

Just like Palm Sunday, we dramatically enact what we remember in the washing of our feet. During the foot washing, we will sing a version of the traditional “Ubi Caritas,” which you can listen to here. As we receive the holy meal that Christ instituted on this night, the service then leads us into the Garden of Gethsemane, the threshold of Good Friday.

Rev. Ginny Seibel from Immanuel Anglican Church will preach.
